## The Recommended Recording Method

The first — and recommended — recording method is the Chrome extension. For most teams, this is where the majority of Supademo recording happens.

The Supademo Chrome extension is available on all plans and works across modern browsers. It's the most flexible option overall and the only way to record HTML or Sandbox demos. It also lets you record your screen and webcam and capture screenshots. Unless you're recording something that lives locally or on-prem, the Chrome extension is almost always the best choice.

## Getting Started

To get started, head to the Chrome Web Store, search for Supademo, and install the extension. One quick tip here: pin the extension to your browser toolbar so it's always easy to access.

## Before Recording

Before hitting record, there are a few things worth knowing.

Auto Zoom controls the zoom-and-pan effect during playback. It's turned on by default because it helps guide a viewer's attention and keeps demos easy to follow. In most cases, it's best to leave this on. It can be turned off if you want a completely static view, but for guided demos, Auto Zoom generally improves clarity.

AI Enhancement helps generate clearer, more natural hotspot text as you record. This reduces the amount of manual cleanup needed later and makes guided steps easier to understand out of the box.

You'll also see your name in the extension when you're logged into Supademo. If you're on an Enterprise plan with access to multiple workspaces, or if you have more than one Supademo account, make sure you're logged into the correct workspace before starting a recording.

## Smart Blur

Back in the main recording window, you'll also see a feature called Smart Blur. Smart Blur automatically detects and blurs sensitive information like emails, prices, number values, and other elements you can define before recording.

This is especially helpful for Guided Screenshot demos when capturing products that include personally identifiable information, or when working in regulated industries like healthcare or finance. If HTML recording isn't available on your plan, Smart Blur is a simple way to protect sensitive data without having to manually edit every step afterward. It hides content in real time, which saves editing time and reduces risk.

If you are recording in HTML, including Guided HTML or Sandbox demos, there's a better approach covered later in the HTML editing lessons. HTML allows sensitive information to be replaced entirely instead of blurred, which is often faster and keeps demos feeling more realistic.

## Types of Recordings

Now let's talk about the types of recordings you can create.

Depending on your plan, the Chrome extension gives you access to Guided Screenshot demos, Guided HTML demos, and Sandbox demos. If HTML recording is available, it's strongly recommended to make it your default. HTML recordings create pixel-accurate demos and give you much more flexibility after recording, which makes ongoing updates significantly easier. This is especially important in regulated industries like healthcare and finance.

Guided Screenshot demos are a strong option for quick walkthroughs, simpler use cases, or when HTML recording isn't available, such as on Free, Pro, or Scale plans.

## The Recording Flow

Regardless of demo type — Guided Screenshot, Guided HTML, or Sandbox — the recording flow is always the same. Open the Supademo Chrome extension, click Create a Supademo, choose your recording type, and select a Save To folder.

That Save To folder matters. A good practice is to save new demos to your personal folder first so they can be edited and refined before being moved into a shared team workspace. Supademo will remember your last Save To location automatically.

## What's Next

Next up, if you need to record local or on-prem software, that's where the desktop app comes in. In the next lesson, we'll cover how the Desktop app works and when to use it.

## Key takeaways

- Install and configure the Chrome Extension
- Start and stop recordings efficiently
- Capture clicks, inputs, and scrolls automatically
