When to Use the Desktop App

The desktop app is designed for situations where browser-based recording isn't possible. This is most commonly when you need to capture local or on-prem software.

The desktop app only supports Guided Screenshot recordings. It does not support HTML demos or sandbox demos, even if you're on a Growth or Enterprise plan. Outside of local or on-prem use cases, the Chrome extension is usually the better option.

Getting Started

To get started, download and install the desktop app on your machine. Once it's installed, open the app and make sure you're logged into your Supademo account before recording.

When you're ready to record, you'll choose whether to capture your full screen or a specific window.

Recording Setup

The recording setup will feel familiar. From the recording window, you can enable options like auto zoom, countdown timers, and other standard recording settings before you begin.

When you click Record Supademo, start the countdown if it's enabled and record as usual. When you're finished, click Stop Recording, and your Supademo will be created and saved.

Important Differences

One important difference to note is that the desktop app does not support recording screen and camera. You can still capture screenshots through the desktop app, and if needed, you can upload videos after the recording is complete once you're in edit mode.

Setup Best Practices

As with any recording, a little setup goes a long way. Keep your desktop clean, close unnecessary applications, and make sure the window you're recording is clearly visible and fully expanded. These small details make demos easier to edit and maintain over time.
